Ep. 492 – Into the Breach

It’s a bug hunt. Jacob York (of wolf fighting fame), joins Dave on this episode to discuss Into the Breach, the turn-based strategy game by Subset Games. Outside of game discussion, there are many references to the Funky Kong religion which was founded on last week’s episode. We also talk about Toad’s anatomy a little bit, and of course we make plans to purchase GamePro.

Ep. 491 – Donut County

Get your holes ready! One-half of TADPOG Sweethearts, Josh Nance, joins the podcast to talk about Donut County, the 2018 indie game by Ben Esposito. Tyler is out this week, so this is a JADPIG episode (Josh and Dave Play Indie Games, duh). While unsupervised, Dave and Josh found a Funky Kong religion and talk about cat murder on a local scale!

Ep. 490 – Minit

Jacob York (of wolf fighting fame) joins Dave on this episode to discuss Minit, the 2018 adventure game. This game isn’t old and Tyler is missing! Yeah, we’re bucking all kinds of trends on this one. Where is Tyler?? We put on our sleuthing hats and get to the bottom of that mystery. We also talk about Breath of the Wild, Zelda games in general, Dark Souls, and Darkest Dungeon.

Ep. 489 – Crash Bandicoot

Of course it’s about time we talk about Crash Bandicoot by Naughty Dog for the PlayStation! And what is a podcast about Crash without a little talk about Dexter and Frasier? We invited famed Cootologist, Exalted Lord Mike of Perdue, on this episode to help us break down the game. We take a Marsupial Soup quiz, which was sent in by Bovine Bear Matt.

Karnov! Since we fought him in Bad Dudes we just had to play his very own game. For this special episode we bring on entirely new guest host Chris Black! We open a package, we take a quiz, we talk Karnov and oddly enough we get real.

Ep. 487 – Bad Dudes

Do you love the 2000s? Do you love Jerry Seinfeld? Then don’t worry your head because there is plenty of talk about the smash 2007 hit Bee Movie! We also take a small tangent to bring on Drew and Bailey Rowland of Hops and Heroes fame to discuss the Data East game Bad Dudes. We also settle the argument between spaghetti and maple syrup, create a billion dollar underwear idea and take the baddest quiz courtesy of Bovine Bear Matt Cowan.

Ep. 486 – Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Happy (day after) New Year! Now that we have severely dated yet another episode—Chocto (you know him from YouTube) joins us on this one to talk about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch. Yes, we realize this game is less than a month old. It hardly qualifies as an “old game” but we do our best to shoehorn retro gaming references in (okay, maybe not our best). We focus on the Adventure Mode a lot but we also talk about the game in a broader sense, and we end up talking about previous Smash Bros. games as well. Of course we talk about our mains and speculate on DLC fighters. During the middle of the show a strange package from Link makes an appearance. We wrap things up by tackling a Smash Quiz that was sent in by Quiz Master Bovine Bear Matt.

Ep. 485 – Doki Doki Literature Club

Merry (day after) Christmas! Now that we have severely dated this episode—Rhythm Master Paul Corn and Soul Sister Yarn Sorceress Chandra join us on this one to talk about Doki Doki Literature Club by Dan Salvato. It’s a free visual novel released on Windows, Mac, and Linux. We don’t typically do this but…we’re going to show our hand here in the written post and say that this visual novel is very good and it is worth experiencing. We recommend you check it out before listening to the back half of this episode because we spoil it like a chihuahua in an expensive purse. The first forty minutes are filled with us goofing off, eating exotic “meat products” sent in by our friend Link, and playing a fun game called “Dumpster Treasure or Prized Possession” brought to us by Holy Dumpster Diver, so that’s all spoiler-free content. We wrap things up by responding to listener voicemails.

Ep. 484 – Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse

Castle of Illusion is the current game of the month over on the Retro Gaming Monthly Facebook group, and we regularly talk about their monthly selections. We figured it was the perfect time to invite Steven Michael (the creator of the RGM group and Nerdy Thursday Super Fan) on to the show to dish about the game with us. Enjoy!
