Ep. 422 – Naruto: Gekito Ninja Taisen! 4

Dattebayo! We’re taking a short break from the NES Classic games to talk about one of Dave’s favorite games. Captain Gun Nerd Jon Turley joins us to talk about Naruto: Gekito Ninja Taisen! 4 (aka Naruto Gecko Ninja Mike Tyson), the 2005 GameCube fighting game by Tomy. In addition to talking about the game: we talk about the Naruto anime, we all decide which sitcom couple best parallels our individual relationships with our significant others, and we talk about Star Trek quite a bit. There is a super difficult Naruto quiz!

Ep. 421 – Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest

What a horrible night to have a curse! Our quest to play and discuss all of the games on the NES Classic Edition continues on this episode where we talk about Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest. We also talk about spoopy cereal, procedural television, and it is revealed that Tyler was not eaten by a crocodile contrary to popular belief. There is also a “Rib, Heart, Eye, Nail, or Ring Quiz”.

Ep. 420 – Crypt of the NecroDancer

REANIMATE! We’re taking a break from playing through the games on the NES Classic long enough to talk about Crypt of the NecroDancer with Rhythm Master Paul and Soul Sister Yarn Sorceress Chandra. NecroDancer is what it looks like when a rhythm game meets a roguelike dungeon crawler. Aside from game talk, we eat gross jellybeans; Chandra comes at us with some sweet sweet Garfield JOI; there are two (count ’em—two!) quizzes on this episode: a Wizard Quiz and a Necromancer Quiz; and there’s plenty of Dragon Ball talk (we legit discuss Piccolo’s wiener for like five minutes).

Ep. 419 – Castlevania

Grab your whip, your cross and your holy water. On this episode we’re talking about Castlevania, the third game on the NES Classic. There’s also lively discussion about sex benches, wall meat and heart sconces. We open a package of snacks from across the pond, courtesy of Ross. There is totally a monster quiz.

Ep. 418 – Bubble Bobble

Now it is the beginning of a fantastic story! That’s right, we’re talking about Bubble Bobble on this episode as we continuing playing through the thirty games bundled on the NES Classic. We talk about the game plenty, but we also open packages from listeners Edgelord Kyle and Sandwich Pope Phil. Youngling Choco Chica joins us to try a bunch of chocolate…and there’s even a bubble quiz!

Ep. 417 – Call of Cthulhu Wrap Up

With the Call of Cthulhu Actual Play finished, we decided to sit down and discuss the game. We ask questions like: What did the investigators miss? How else could the story have ended? Why didn’t Alex “Chili Dog” Peterson just uppercut Cthulhu? Joining the discussion is the sweetest pair of sweethearts you’ve ever met: Josh and Nicole (aka investigators Brock and Donna). Tyler explains the motivations and inspirations behind this game and Josh clarifies what he meant by “that ending sucks”.

The date is August 9, 1977. This is it. This is the end. The investigators have Berkowitz’s .44 caliber revolver in their possession and are making plans to disrupt the Cthulian ritual. Will Donna, Brock and Chili Dog successfully thwart Lafitte and stop the coming of Cthulhu? Or will the bones of the investigators find a new residence beneath the New York City docks?
